TITLE: Yale University Human Resources/221 Whitney Ave

BUDGET: $10 Million

The complete interior demolition and renovation of Yale’s 66,700 square foot Human Resources Department office building involved all new finishes as well as mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire systems replacement. The utility enabling component was performed by Giordano’s own forces and included directional drilling approximately 12 feet deep using state-of-the-art trenchless pilot tube guided auger boring (the first ever use of this technology in the State of Connecticut) to create five 16 inch diameter steel electrical and firewater sleeves running from Peabody Museum and Kline Geology Laboratory completely across and underneath Whitney Avenue without disrupting heavy traffic or damaging existing utilities (including 100 year old clay sewer pipes). The top five feet of excavation was regulated hazardous material. Giordano’s self-performing forces setup WSA stockpiles; covered and contained the piles; tested the material; and then exported the soil to a permanent facility.
