TITLE: Yale University – Yale Science Building

The Yale Science Building (YSB) is a new 280,000 SF, seven floor biology research lab facility including a roof top
mechanical penthouse with adjacent research greenhouse. The new facility will provide the University with state of the art research labs, support labs, specialized shared labs, meeting rooms, offices and ancillary spaces. The new YSB is being constructed in an interior location among Kline Biology Tower Plaza, at the top of Science Hill, between the southern ends of YSB and KBT. YSB will be connected to neighboring science facilities via existing and new underground hallways within the existing concourse level below KBT Plaza. YSB will be located in the area of and will serve in part to replace, the demolished J. W. Gibbs Laboratory (JWG) building. Giordano’s Self- performance team has been contracted to complete all of the Sitework & Landscaping including mass rock excavation, handling of contaminated soils, site concrete, masonry work, exterior finishes, landscaping & construction of underground utilities. The mass excavation at YSB tasked Giordano with the removal and export of 75000 yards of rock without the aid of blasting techniques. Giordano’s Self-performance team accomplished the monumental task only utilizing a grinding technique exporting all of the material o site and the handling of the contaminated soils while maintaining all of the milestone schedule markers.
