TITLE: Dr. Reginald Mayo Early Learning School
BUDGET: $40 Million
DATE: 2014-2016
This project is the most recently completed project to be built as part of the city of New Haven $1.6 billion School Construction Program. The existing school was demolished in 2014, with the new, 65,000-square-foot facility to serve 565 3- and 4-year-old students. This project was built to exceed the high performance standards and LEED Silver equivalency requirements. The school is one of the most sustainable within the en re City portfolio. It is designed to provide the owner with energy-efficient, reliable and maintainable mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems (MEP), which provide op mal indoor air quality and occupant comfort through ceiling-mounted chilled beams. The electrical design includes energy saving features throughout, including LED lighting and an 84 KW roof mount photovoltaic system. The plumbing fixtures within the building are all low- ow, which will save on water consumption throughout the year. Much detail was also incorporated into the Security surpassing the latest requirements established at the State level. Consideration was given to the exterior of the building and the interior layout. Fences and security camera locations, ballistic glass, hardware, and lockdown sequencing all incorporated seamlessly into the design, while s ll maintaining and exciting learning environment.
