TITLE: Kline Biology Tower LAB

DATE: 2007

The 207,245 sf Kline Biology Tower (KBT) was designed by renowned Modernist architect Philip Johnson as part of a complex of buildings that became known collectively as the Kline Science Center. KGL is constructed of reinforced concrete, brick, and sandstone. The 14-story tower is designed as a research laboratory for the Department of Biology. Other facilities housed here include the Science Library beneath the plaza and a university cafeteria on the top floor. The tower is directly connected to the Sloane Physics Laboratory and the Josiah W. Gibbs Research Laboratory by tunnels. The project involved reinforcement of the building’s roof deck; concrete and brick canopy repair and restoration; replacement of the concrete loading dock; and extensive sitework and landscaping including relocation of fire main.
