Project Highlights

Major Renovation of Six Story Office Building
Self-performed Utility Interconnect utilizing
Trenchless Boring Technology

221 Whitney Avenue

Yale's complete interior demolition and renovation of its 66,700 sf Human Resources Department office building included new finishes as well as mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire system replacement. Also included was a utility enabling component utilizing directional drilling approximately 12 feet deep using a state-of-the-art trenchless pilot tube guided auger boring technology (the first ever use in the State of Connecticut) to create five 16 inch diameter steel electrical and firewater completely across and underneath Whitney Avenue without disrupting heavy traffic or damage to existing utilities (such as a 100 year old clay sewer pipe). The top five feet of excavation was regulated hazardous material. Giordano’s self-performing forces setup WSA stockpiles, covered and contained the piles, tested the material, and then exported the soil to a permanent facility.
